Microsoft Visual Studio: problem w/ Modeling Power Toys on VS2005 SP1 on Vista

  • Hi,

Just wanted to alert a problem I found with the Modeling power toys running VS2005 SP1 team suite w/ db pro on vista (with sp1 for vista too). I was not able to open my application diagram, visual studio would just close with no errors or anything... once I removed the power toy, I was able to open the application diagram.

Please let me know if there is a place I can report this bug, since gotdotnet is going away.

    Regards,

    Dan

    1. Hi Dan,

Thanks for reporting this bug. We will log a bug for it and look into it ASAP.

Could you give me more information about this bug:

      1. Does it happened for Application Diagram of just for a specific project.

      2. If it is the second situation, please tell which scenario to repro it.

BTW: Since gotdotnet is going away, we have planned to migrate this project to CodePlex website later.

    2. actually, I read another post from someone who said it was because of Windows Workflow (which I had installed too)... either one works ok but not both together...

anyway, it was for any solution, not sure about any diagram, I did not spend too much time with it, I had work to do. Smile

      regards,

      dan

How much later? It is not available at the moment.

    5. I have experienced this problem as well (running on XP SP2). I had two web application solutions and neither would allow me to open the class diagram with Modeling Power Toys after VS2005 SP1 was installed. I uninstalled Modeling Power Toys and all is well again. Note: I had WWF for VS2005 installed as well but uninstalling this w/o uninstalling Power Toys had no effect.

    6. I am having the same problems on Windows 2003 Server Sp1 using Vs2005 Prof Sp1:

I was running Vs2005 Standard with the class designer powertoys, then started getting problems. I unistalled powertoys, uninstalled Vs2005 standard, did an upgrade to Visual Studio 2005 professional, reinstalled powertoys, class diagrams were working fine. Today, I opened a a project with interfaces and classes and a class diagram.
As soon as I clicked on the diagram, Vs2005 Prof crashes. Reloaded, tried again, Vs crashes.
The Event Viewer says .Net runtime version 2.0.50727.832 Fatal Execution Error.

I disabled the powertoys in the add-ins section. Now I get "Could not run the C:\Program Files.....\1033\ClassDiagram.zip\ClassDiagram.vstemplate wizard" a similar error which I was getting on Vs2005 Standard. I checked the directory and the zip file is there.

I unistalled the powertoys via the powertoys msi, now the class diagram works fine (of course without the powertoy's enhancements), no Vs2005 crashes whatsoever.

    7. Same issue. XP SP2, VS2005 Team SP1. BTW, great power toy. I use it quite a bit.
