Microsoft SharePoint: WSS 3.0 Quick Launch not editable from Site Settings

I'm trying to edit my QuickLaunch menu from the "Look and Feel" Column on the Site Settings page.

The Quick Launch menu doesn't appear in the list for me . . . has anyone else run into this?

I'm desperately needing to understand the issue/solution?

Thanks.

I am guessing you don't have the proper permissioins to modify navigation. What sections and options do you see when you go to site settings? What type of site are you on - Team, Meeting, blog, wiki, publishing?

I am having the exact same problem as the original poster. I am in the Owners group for my site with Full Control permissions and yet, in Site Settings under "Look and Feel" there is no Quick Launch or Top link bar options. Why would this be? Is this something that the Site Collection Administrator could have disabled for some reason?

Here's what I DO have listed under Look and Feel:

  • Title, description, and icon
  • Master page
  • Navigation
  • Tree view
  • Site theme
  • Reset to site definition
  • Searchable columns

There's one other thing also. Whenever I create a new subsite within my site, on the New Sharepoint Site page, the "Navigation" section is missing. The "Navigation Inheritance" section is there, but without the "Navigation" section I cannot choose whether or not to include the new subsite in the top link bar of the parent site. What gives!?

Please Help!

Sounds to me like you are on a team site that is part of a publishing site collection. In which case I think you have the proper menus. If you click on Navigatoin can't you edit both the Current navigation (quick launch) and the globabl navigation (top)?

Shane,

That would make sense, the way to manage the navigation changed after the publishing feature was activated in the site collection.

Thanks for the response and clarification !

Cbueno,

Firstly, I'm also a newbie and a bit of a hack.... My situation may be a bit different. I used to be able to edit the "Quick Launch" from the Look and Feel section of the modify settings. After the 'Publishing' feature of the Site Collection was activated, I started going into:

1. Site Actions

2. Modify Navigation

From this page there is a new way to manage the quick launch. You can create links, folders, organize the menu...

Note that this way of managing the quick launch was only available after certain site collection features were enabled.

Hope this helps...

I am having the same issues - no Quick Launch on the settings menu. It has nothing to do with permissions. I was using the Navigation menu to fix my quick launch, however now that is not working either - I keep getting an error (The page has been modified by another author on 31 Oca 2008 12:08:13 +0200.) The time stated is always the exact time that I am trying to make a change. I have tried different computers, different times, made sure that I am the only one trying to make the change and it doesnt work.

So, I have two questions - where is my Quick Launch and why isnt the Navigation menu working.

Shane's suggestion (#4) was the correct answer for me. Once I turned on the Office SharePoint Server Publishing Infrastructure feature for the site collection, the quick launch link to the quick launch goes away for all sites. You can still get to it by going to _layouts/quiklnch.aspx. look a little closer at the Site Navigation Settings... it does the same thing (note "move up/Move Down).
Thanks Shane!
