Microsoft MS DOS/95/98/me: wrong disk size

210| Tue, 26 Feb 2008 16:31:00 GMT| liwarren| Comments (7)
I had to install a new hard drive on my computer. I have now noticed that my 'A' drive says it is 5 1/4 instead of 3.5 in size. We can't use the A drive now. Any ideas? Also, my computer seems to freeze-up. Any ideas? The freezing I have noticed is when I am online. Thanks in advance for any help.

Can you access your bios setup and set the floppy on the correct size there?

I'm sorry, but I don't know how to do that.

When the computer is first starting up, there is a key to press to access the bios (cmos) setup. Usually it's the DEL key, Compaqs F 10, others F 1 or F 2.

Once there look for info on the floppy drive. Change it to 3 1/2, save changes and reboot.

Well, I guess it says I don't even have an A drive! Now what do I do? Thanks for helping.

Is there a key you can hit to re recognize all the drives? Is there a setting for the floppy drive controller to be ENABLED or DISABLED? Does the floppy drive light come on and go off when you are starting up? When you installed the new hard drive, are you sure you connected the floppy drive back, or if you didn't disconnect it, be sure you didn't bump one of the cables loose.

I'm going to try with my little knowledge to tell you what it said. I went into Standard Bios and it said Diskette A drive-none. It the Bios Setup it said disabled. I couldn't find anywhere how to change it. I don't really know how to do it, but could follow directions.

Can you change diskette drive a from none, to auto? Can you use your up/down arrow keys to select one? Can you also check the connections and answer my 'is it getting power' question?
